John Newton, author of the hymn Amazing Grace, was also a preacher who was well aware of his own shortcomings. In one of his letters he shares some helpful thoughts on how to respond when you find yourself listening to a sermon that is a bit, well… under-par.
Sermon duds are inevitable, but they are useful to expose both the needs of our pastors and the needs of our own hearts, too.
